Autumn Festivals in Japan

Autumn is a festival season in Japan.  This is a festival to celebrate this year’s harvest.  Every weekend in September, you will find festivals somewhere in Japan.  Typically people carry miniature shrines which will be presented to the main shrines.

In front of the approach towards the shrines, there are many shops who sell foods, baloons, sweets or kids’ toys.  Soba noodles, pancake-like  okonomiyaki or takoyaki, dumplings with octopus are everybody’s favorites.

On the days of autumn festivals, kids grab their allowances and visit small stalls with their friends.  They may be allowed to sit up late.

Perhaps, shrines are less crowded during day time.
