From today till next Sunday, the World Bonsai Convention is held in Sonic City in Saitama. Omiya of Saitama prefecture is famous for Bonsai, the Japanese miniature gardening or plant arrangement. To celebrate the Convention, they are exhibiting many Bonsai arts in Omiya Station.
Shirakawago in Gifu Prefecture and Gokayama in Toyama Prefecture are registered as World Heritage. The houses in these small vilages have thatched triangle gabled roof – the shapes seen only in this heavy snowfall area.
Tanabata is one of the summer festivals in Japan and it is celebrated on August 7th (depending on the region, sometimes on July 7th). Shibuya seems to hold the festival on August 7th and the town is preparing for it.
Summer is the time for lotus flowers. They will open early in the morning but even in the afternoon, you can admire the pink petals. Sinobazu-no-Ike Pond in Ueno Park is famous for the lotus flowers.
