Expecting Plum Blossoms – but still too early!

Plum Festivals started here and there as plum blossoms began blooming.  Yushima Tenjin Shrine where I often visit is one of the famous places for Plum Festivals.  I went to the festival last year but why not go there again this year?  The festival is held from 8 February until 25 February.

It has been extraordinary cold this winter.  In spite of this severe weather, there are some blossoms already in bloom.

But unfortunately, it was a little too early.  The flowers were not full in bloom yet.  It would be better if you visit there next weekend or around 20 February.

Inside the shrine, there were exhibits of origami craft.  These are the work of Origami Kaikan near from Yushima Shrine.  This is a small museum of origami with many exhibits.  They often hold workshop and they sell many kinds of origami and washi paper.

It is about 10 – 15 minute walk from Yushima Shrine to Origami Kaikan.

By the way, perhaps not so many people notice the joint on the pillar of Torii Gate.  It was nearly forty years ago that Torii Gate was broken because a car or a truck crashed into the gate.  That was when I was a school kid and I still remember the incident.  If you take a close look at the gate, you will notice the greenish horizontal line which is a trace that the broken gate was connected again.

There is a trace of being connected.

  1. Hello from Finland.

How stunning photos – so beautiful. We have full winter here and it has been very cold during last two week. Our next blossom festival – Hanami, will be arranged in May in Helsinki.

    Have a good day!
