Walking in the Plants & Bonsai Market in Asakusa

Asakusa holds Plants & Bonsai Market in the last weekends of May and June.  It is one of the largest street market of this type in Tokyo.  This market is a festival of Asakusafuji Sengen Shrine.

Sengen Shrine is about 15 minute walk from Asakusa Station.  There are Sengen Shrines throughout Japan.  They worship Mt. Fuji.  Asakusafuji Sengen Shrine has a small Mt. Fuji inside the shrine.  Mt. Fuji opens for climbing on July 1st and on that day during Edo Era of 17 – 18th century, those who could not go to Mt. Fuji gathered at the shrine.
