I wrote about temples in Yanaka some time ago. This time, let’s visit the shopping street called Yanaka Ginza. The shopping street was created just after the war. Along the 170-meter long street, there are about 70 shops.
At the end of the shopping street, there are stairways called Yuyake Dandan. Yuyake means sunset glow and Dandan is stairways. You can see the stairways in the above photo. This is a place where you can see sunset glow at the end of the day.
If you visit there during mid-day, the street will be packed with loals and travelers. There are many food stands so you can buy small snacks on your way. You will see grocery stores, clothes shops, a bakery, a tea shop, small shops who sell tablewares, bags, jewerly, and many other things.
The above is a shop of artisans who sell bamboo and wooden crafts. There are many old traditional shops in this area.
The area around Yanaka Ginza has a traditional streetscape with old wooden houses with flower pots in front of the houses. There is a small temple to pray for longevity near from Yanaka Ginza called Enmei Jizo or Guardian Deity for Longevity.
